
Although the website no longer works, it seems as though Mattermachine had built a web-based 3D product configurator, and Trimble is now using that engine to power the live component features. What’s interesting about live components is that they are built on an entirely different modeling platform called Materia, that Trimble now owns through its acquisition of a company called MatterMachine. Click the link, then click Configure to configure the component. When viewing a live component, you’ll see an interface with sliders and options that you can customize, and you’ll see the model change in real-time.īelow are direct links to ALL 68 of the Live Components available as of 11/12/20. I don’t recommend searching for a specific term just yet, since there aren’t too many live components available yet, you’re better off simply browsing the ones available.


SketchUp Labs is a new program that will enable certain features to be released to the public in order to test new ideas and have SketchUp users provide feedback in order to help prioritize the development of new features. You can think of this as a “public beta” release of live components, and it’s actually the first feature to be released in a new branch of SketchUp products and features that will be developed under what’s being called “ SketchUp Labs”. However, they’ve stated that they are working on being able to allow SketchUp users to author their own live components, as well as being able to reconfigure live components right inside of SketchUp, instead of having to configure it on the 3D Warehouse. So you’re not able to author your own custom live components at this point. With this initial release, live components are limited to a sample of various components that the SketchUp team has authored, with more to be added in the future.

The following code works almost like the ‘right click’ - ‘make unique’, except when making a selection of ALL similar instances (all in selection are of the same definition) - It still makes them all unique (adding a new definition), instead of ignoring them. With the tips from all of you, I think I managed to get what I want. Neil, in your last suggestion, if the selection had multiple instances, with different definitions, it would turn them all into instances of one definition (the first) - which is unlike how the ‘right click’ - ‘make unique’ works. Or, if I were ‘forced’ to mess with all other components (I’d rather not), I would want to maintain all similarities outside my selection. I wish to replicate that exact function in Ruby without messing with other components “by accident”. Go into it, and select 6 small boxes, ‘right click’, ‘make unique’, it still only makes those selected unique, without touching anything else outside of context. If I were to ‘select’ manually (with the mouse) one Big Box, ‘right click’, ‘make unique’.

I wouldn’t want my operation on one Big Box and it’s sub-boxes affecting the similarities of the small boxes in the other Big Boxes… In the animation that Neil posted, in each ‘Big Box’ the small boxes are becoming unique (small_box#1 x 6, small_box#2 x 6, small_box#3 x 6… etc.). In TIG’s code, all instances in other parents are made unique of each other (or at least that’s what happens in my adaptation). Looking at the code again, in both suggestions, the scripts make all ‘unrelated’ instances unique instead of making only the selected instances or their sub-components unique.
